Someone asked me, "How do you educate your sons to be part George Washington (regarding his "Rules of Conduct" for young men") and Jane Austen's character, Mr. Knightly. My answer to this would be simply: develop the rules for good manners and use them in all situations. Get rid of prejudices so that you do not alter your course of courtesy. If for instance you do not like your mother or mother in law, treat her respectfully as you would any church member, any employer, any stranger, any one in authority, any weaker or delicate person. The story is told of a man who was chivalrous and courteous to everyone, no matter how stressful the situation. He was asked if a woman was not a lady, or if she was rude and acted rough and loud and mean, would he be as polite, offer her a seat, let her go first, carry something heavy for her, say excuse me or thank you, please, etc. He replied "Whether she is a lady or not, is not the point. The point is, I am a gentleman."Lydiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15530969871397361970noreply@blogger.com
